Due to severe frosts, Alexander Ban received a very small crop and was forced to turn to Alsatian winemakers who came to his aid and offered healthy biodynamic grapes of Pinot Gris, Silvaner and Pinot Blanc varieties. The number 68 in the name of the wine refers to the zip code of the vineyard in Alsace. Alexander helped to collect the grapes and delivered to his own cellar. Also included in the blend was the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc from the La Lvee vineyard in the Loire Valley. After fermentation in steel tanks, the wine was aged on the lees in cement tanks for a year and bottled without filtering and only with a minimal addition of sulfur to make the wine stable. The storage capacity of “No. 68” is 6 years.
